Here was the discussion in my house – and hint, it split down generational lines. Of course, when someone sends you a gift, a thank you note is called for. It is just a small way to show appreciation for someone who took the time to think about you.
Have you ever regifted a gift?
I was in rush last week. My husband and I were invited to a friend’s beach house in the Hamptons for the day. I realized a few minutes before we were to leave that I had forgotten to buy a hostess gift. I was in a quandary as we were already running late, and we had no time to stop anywhere.
Depending on one’s age you may be more familiar with the baseball broadcaster/analyst than the total ballplayer many of us “experienced” after Keith Hernandez joined the New York Mets June 15, 1983. It was electric inside and outside Citi Field yesterday (July 9, 2022). The Mets emailed ticketholders to arrive early; my Mets Group Sales rep Aaron Ryley also sent a similar message. We (Shelly and Marisa of course and friends Linda and Anthony Lemma) arrived as planned around 2:00 p.m.
This definitely falls under the category of excess.
Serendipity3 on Manhattan's Upper East Side earned a Guinness World Record for the world's most expensive French fries when chefs cooked up Creme de la Creme Pommes Frites, a plate of fries listed for $200. The fries will be returning to the eatery for National French Fry Day on July 13.
Last weekend there was an article in Newsday about a kidney donor which drew tears to my eyes and evoked memories of Gothamite Cindy Somma winning Gotham’s highest honor, the Red Bandanna Award for donating her kidney. After sending her the pictured article I telephoned Cindy and asked her to share her experience with me (us). What she related follows and is compelling to say the least. It all started when she learned that her second cousin’s dialysis was failing and her family was seeking a kidney donor.
The summer song is one of music’s biggest joys. A summer hit dominates parties, barbecues, pools, discos, raves, and car radios. The memories of the best songs from the 1960’s to today stay implanted in our brains and become ear worms that are hard to shake.
Summertime cries out for a good book – well, add a beach and a glass of wine, but still with a good book.
